Job Description

Purpose of the role:
 
The primary role of the paralegal is to support the in house legal team of a client pension provider, dealing with the correction of errors and the resolution of minor complaints. In addition, the role would involve assisting fee earners in working on multiple accounts to support clients with pension projects.  The paralegal's work will include taking instructions from the clients, drafting and preparation of documents, the preparation and maintenance of document bibles and the management of client reporting systems.  It may also involve working at the client's premises.
This is a highly varied job requiring a flexible attitude and the ability to engage at every level of the group so as to become integral to its business objectives and delivery.
 
The Role
General Matter Responsibilities:
  • Working with an in house legal team
  • Legal research
  • Organising client document information bundles
  • Review of documentation to identify key provisions / materials / filter for fee earner
  • Preliminary drafting of scheme amending documentation
  • Client liaison – point of contact for routine queries, monitoring and filtering client helpline accounts, updating clients on general developments
  • Drafting member communications
  • Preparation and monitoring of smart plan projects
  • Preparation of client bills and narratives
  • Phoning chambers for counsel's availability and booking counsel
  • Attending meetings and note taking
Client Management
  • Paralegal will be assigned to various client service teams and will be expected to become familiar with the client's processes and procedures and reporting requirements
  • Key interface between the firm and client for taking instructions
  • Preparation of monthly reports for client
  • Assisting in preparation of client training materials
Knowledge Management
  • Creating client knowledge/management files
  • Assisting with the preparation of precedents/precedents express
Key Skills
 
    • Pro-active approach to identification of work to be done
    • Strong people skills and ability to project credible and professional image to the client
    • Strong written and spoken communication skills with all levels of staff
    • Ability to project management and prioritise
    • IT literate with a good knowledge and high degree of competency in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
    • Excellent organisational skills with acute attention to detail
    • Educated to degree level and ideally would have completed the LPC.
