Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Paralegal to join the Ascent Legal Non Standard team working from our Manchester office. You will be working as part of the specialist litigation team dealing with a range of secured and unsecured debt recovery matters and assisting the team in managing contentious and complex defended finance litigation claims.

You will provide technical litigation support to volume and routine case processing teams, along with quality legal advice to the firm’s clients, working in a practical way delivering sound commercial advice. You will also be required to work closely with clients in understanding their objectives and providing added value services.

  The Role

In your role, you will draw upon your experience in defended litigation and dispute resolution services to provide high quality legal and commercial advice to the Firm’s clients. You will work proactively to ensure compliance with the Firm’s policies and procedures, continually reviewing cases to ensure quality legal provision and ultimately putting the Firm’s clients and their desire to achieve fair outcomes with their customers at the heart of everything you do.  

You must be able to demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and challenging environment, demonstrating flexibility to changes in work schedule and priorities at all times. To ensure profitability for the Firm, you must be able to deliver on time recording and fee income targets.

The successful candidate will have experience in:-

  • Dealing with contentious and disputed debt recovery actions
  • progressing cases from instruction through to possession or judgment;
  • drafting witness statements, statements of cases, consent orders and applications;
  • instructing advocates and counsel to appear at court hearings;
  • investigating the assets and estates of deceased customers;
  • issuing correspondence to and responding to correspondence from customers and other third parties such as, solicitors, debt management companies and the courts;
  • managing their own caseload, with close supervision  and assist on more complex matters ;  
  • keeping up to date with relevant legal changes to ensure best practice at all times and will have the confidence to provide interpretation and make recommendations with regards to all manner of legal problems.
