Job Description

Our team offers specialist advice on the full range of derivatives, structured products and capital markets products and transactions, including equity derivatives, credit derivatives, repos and securities lending transactions. We have extensive experience of advising issuers, dealers, corporates and other market participants across all major jurisdictions, sectors and in all areas of capital markets.

The derivatives, structured products and capital markets industries are undergoing a period of unprecedented regulatory change and our team is at the forefront of advising on these developments, including the Benchmark Regulation, clearing, EMIR, Dodd-Frank, MiFID II, PRIIPs KID and the Prospectus Directive.

Our team has been widely praised for its responsive approach, which combines with a distinctly practical and commercial attitude. We have a prestigious group of clients including a number of the biggest international banks and blue chip corporates, partnering with them wherever they need our support.

Job overview:

This is an extremely varied role working within one of the leading derivatives, structured products and debt capital markets legal teams in London. We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter with an ability to prioritise and take the lead on projects once instructions have been given. There is potential for the role to develop as you gain experience and confidence.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Expertise Lawyers and Partners in the Global Markets team to provide a wide range of knowhow support. Responsibilities will include:

  • assisting with the preparation and publication of client briefings and internal knowhow, including researching legal and technical issues;
  • following ongoing regulatory and practical developments in a range of practice areas and summarising these for the appropriate team members;
  • conducting research into current and ongoing legal issues and presenting the results in an easily accessible format;
  • organising and administering Global Markets training – managing speakers, updating training schedules, storing training materials and liaising with the Training Events team;
  • acting as primary point of contact for the group for uploading and locating knowhow and template documents on our intranet;
  • assisting with the update and maintenance of standard form documents;
  • storing Global Markets legal updates; and
  • updating and administering the Global Markets intranet and internet pages, becoming familiar with the legal content and making decisions about appropriate layout and ease of use.

Essential skills and experience:

Technical training will be provided on basic legal principles and the transactional structures used across the group. You will also need:

  • a degree (a law degree would be an advantage but is not essential);
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • the ability to use your initiative;
  • excellent attention to detail in your written work;
  • proven research skills;
  • the ability to work to deadlines;
  • the ability to work independently and take control of discrete tasks;
  • good organisational skills; and
  • the ability to work well in a team.

Occasional travel to London may be required.
