Job Description

There is an exceptional opportunity for a Paralegal to join our Aviva UK Insurance (UKI) – General Insurance (GI) legal team in Norwich, working in-house and learning about the financial services industry within Aviva (a FTSE100 company and the UK’s leading insurer).

 

The role is initially a 6-month fixed term contract, with the potential to extend.

 

This legal team is fast-paced and strategically important, sitting at the heart of Aviva’s core goal of assisting customers to Defy Uncertainty, supporting all areas of UKI’s diverse GI business, including health.

 

The UKGI Legal team is actively involved in a wide range of customer products and propositions, and developments. Our role is supporting the UK GI and health businesses as part of the wider UKI legal team, by providing first class legal advice and mitigating legal risk to the business.

 

This role offers broad legal and commercial experience, working with colleagues across the UKGI and wider UKI legal teams. You will develop relationships with colleagues alongside and outside our UKI team and build your understanding of Aviva and the insurance industry more generally. The role will include working closely with colleagues within the Aviva business, Risk and Governance functions and with others as required. You will be joining a committed and collaborative team based in Norwich, although occasional travel to our other offices including London, York and Eastleigh may be required from time to time.

 

What day to day duties and responsibilities will this role will involve?

  • Working collaboratively with members of the team and other teams within Aviva’s legal function
  • Researching/monitoring legal developments and regulatory changes
  • Carrying out basic contractual and product work
  • Identifying legal issues or risks and developing solutions
  • Providing high quality, pragmatic legal advice for the UKI areas on a broad range of products, propositions and documents
  • Supporting the senior lawyers with allocated tasks and involvement as required in broader legal projects
  • Supporting UKI’s True Customer Composite and Digital First strategies
  • Administrative duties and co-ordination of activities to required timescales

 

What skills & experience do you have?

  • University degree and recent/relevant legal experience in-house and/or in private practice required
  • Legal professional qualifications (e.g. GDL/LPC/ILEX) and/or experience of UK regulated financial services and related laws are preferred but not essential
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, together with ability to question and challenge
  • Special attention to detail and ability to effectively and accurately research legal and regulatory issues
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and deliver to set timescales, also with the skills to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, alongside a commercial experience and mindset, and strong analytical skills
  • An enquiring mind, ability to identify improvements with a positive mind set and a “can do” approach

  • A salary of £21,000 to £30,000 depending on skills, qualifications and experience
