We’re recruiting a Legacy Officer / Paralegal / Legal Assistant for a 12 Month FTC to join our growing Legacy Income team, reporting directly to the Senior Legacy Income Manager. This role is ideal if you're looking to make the move from Private Practice, or are already working in the Legacy sector looking for a rewarding role in a leading charity. Salary: £32,283.31 (Inclusive of RRP) per annum Internally this role is known as Legacy Officer and the successful candidate will protect and enhance legacy income through practical application of statute, regulations and case law. You'll also be required to proactively manage a caseload of typically 310 cases (but up to 350 cases) which can include contentious legal claims that may lead to court cases and complex estates. The team fulfills a vital role as legacies fund over half of the work RSPCA does to improve the welfare of animals. The Legacy Income team are responsible for sensitively managing 2700 gifts each year. About you: Our successful candidate will be professional, passionate about delivering high quality outcomes, demonstrate initiative and be self motivated. You will have strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills which enable you to develop great working relationships. You will share our values of being compassionate, inspirational, committed, expert and act with integrity. In addition you will: Ensure the smooth running of administration of estates and the expeditious receipt of income. Evaluate potential claims against estates, making judgement calls on potential risk. Represent the Society when attending negotiations, mediation, conferences with Counsel, settlement meetings and court hearings with the RSPCA instructed lawyers. Protect the Society’s interest in various types of trust funds. Instruct Law Firms and other professionals on behalf of the Society to investigate and represent the charity. Deal with legacy cases on behalf of the Society’s branches that have opted into the Branch Legacy Scheme. Analyse and assess the wording of a gift in a Will or information that has come to light in respect of the allocation of the funds. A job description can be downloaded from this web page.
